A Brief History of Riley's Trick Shop:
On March 21, 1937, Jim Riley and Eleanor Borgeson opened a general store at 7909 Rhodes on the South Side of Chicago. They married three weeks later. They sold greeting cards, general merchandise and even took in laundry. A popcorn machine they had proved so popular that the manager of the cinema around the corner said they were killing his popcorn business. He bought the machine for $75.00 and the Rileys invested that money in a line of trick and jokes and Riley's Trick Shop was born. In 1956 the store moved to 1057 W. 79th St. and in 1965 it moved again to its own building at 9033 Western Ave. That's where their son Jim began working full-time. 1973 saw their move from Chicago to their current location in Worth, IL. Jim's wife Judy began working full-time at this location as did their daughter Colleen and son Jim. In 2007 Colleen opened her own Riley's branch at 103 Bankview Drive in Frankfort, IL. And that is how you make three generations of fun.
